things are good. never remember to keep up on here. myface every now and then but mostly twitter. 140 characters can communicate a lot of things especially when they are in a near continuous stream from all the people that you know (well, ok most.).
random thought of the day is that Eli Whitney failed at what Software as a Service is trying to do.
Whitney received a patent (later numbered as X72 [1]) for his cotton gin on March 14, 1794; however, it was not validated until 1807. Whitney and his partner Miller did not intend to sell the gins. Rather, like the proprietors of grist and sawmills, they expected to charge farmers for cleaning their cotton - two-fifths of the profits, paid in cotton. Resentment at this scheme, the mechanical simplicity of the device, and the primitive state of patent law, made infringement inevitable. As Whitney and Miller were unable to produce enough gins to meet demand, imitation gins began to spread. Ultimately, patent infringement lawsuits consumed the profits and their cotton gin company went out of business in 1797.
this should be interesting. |

Should be trying to get to sleep. OTC mixer seems to be dragging me in but still restless in that recess it never really quiets down. I guess it's only so loud because it's so quiet. Still, here I am posting on a relic for the hell of it with about as much to say. It's that enthusiasm that we keep in check because we see where fervor gets us. The control is just in the wrong place but is some part of the distinction between the two. So, from when we can't help it and we feel away till we're crazy, we get this hunch we never should of started, then reinforce it by shutting down it's little brother when it comes along. The results get mistaken for proof and we end up not giving a fuck because we do and can't help it. What the fuck do I know... it's probably just the melatonin talking. gniteCurrent Mood: weird

I've covered a few miles since I posted last. Life is generally good though "interesting" as it usually is. Let's see where to start...
Eh, forget that. For "Real" (tm) catching up IM or the phone would probably be better. So here's a summary.
Life goes on and I'm in Portland Oregon now. Hmm... I'm sure there's more to it but that's a start, right? I got a hair cut today. I need hangers since mine were apparently lost in the move.
Due to the economic downturn the company I relocated with had to eliminate a quarter of it's staff but it's not all that bad even though my position was one of those eliminated. All in all, still a fan of the company and hope they are as hugely successful as I know they can be.
So it goes. :) Anywho, write me and let's catch up whoever you are. It's definitely been too long since I've talked to most people and I'm trying to get back to something resembling balance.Current Mood: hungry Current Music: My Toaster Oven - Convection

Have you ever met one of those people that is nigh impossible to get close to? Someone, who for one reason or another, you would like to call a friend in it's purest sense. Yet, unlike times bound up in unrequited romatic attraction, social ineptitude, or prejudice, something more fundamental stands in the way. Context. Walls they have built for reasons better than one should ever have to try and explain. Life.
Like anyone else they have faults and quirks. There are pleanty of people that don't like them for one reason or another, some of those reasons more valid than others. Some times they misunderstand actions or words, viewing both with the suspicion of a wounded child. More than once you watch them act out towards others who stumble into the wrong time and place.
You see fear and pain in a hardened face that deserves better. You see kindness behind bloodshot eyes. Strength and basic goodness burried under miles of life's scars.
They hurt, and there's little left for you, except to sit in silence. There is nothing you can righfully try to give or take away. There is nothing to say or do. So we share the silence.

Americans: a dangerous new bill affecting your use of digital music is being introduced in Congress on Wednesday. Section 115 Reform Act of 2006 (SIRA) fundamentally redefines copyright and fair use in the digital world by requiring all "incidental copies" of music to be licensed separately from the original copy. That means the literal bits of songs that are cached in your computer's memory and buffered over the network between SomaFM and your speakers would need yet another license. Basically, any way to distribute internet radio will have to pay yet another digital fee. And even worse, you won't be allowed to make copies of music you own on your computer or iPod! IP Action has more details on the SIRA bill. Here's how to ask your congressman to oppose the SIRA bill. For more background, read a PDF of the SIRA bill. 5-Jun-06

If anyone has any info on how to find/contact someone who is in the Marine Corps, please let me know. I don't have a whole lot of information to work with other than his first and last name. He would have enlisted around 7/00. As of 2/02 was an E3 (LCpl), was on a 'special training assignment', and was stationed at a base in DC. He's an old friend who I would really like to make sure is ok.
Thanks in advance.

| » Fun with Snakes |
Well, my brother Andy and I spent this afternoon saving/capturing a snake that was caught in some landscape netting that was around mom's rock garden/waterfall thing. At first we thought it was a cottonmouth/water moccasin, but 1) It seems to have a round pupil, 2) It's scales past the vent leading up to the tip of the tail, are double, vs. single, and 3) We can't locate a 'pit' between the eye and nostril. All of these features makes it seem like this snake isn't a cottonmouth (a pit viper), but rather a harmless (though ill tempered) Northern Water Snake. Then again who knows? I've got it in a large rubbermaid container and am looking for the lid to go set him free down by the river. woo hoo!
